about Gurgaon

Gurgaon is a city in the northern Indian state of Haryana, and is a suburb of the Delhi metropolitan area. It is also a part of the National Capital Region of Delhi. It is located in Gurgaon District.

Gurgaon district has witnessed a phenomenal growth in all spheres of development particularly in urbanization and creating industrial climate. With the collaboration of Suzuki Motors of Japan with establishment of Maruti Udyog Limited in early eighties, a new ara for rapid industrialization of Gurgaon started as a result of which Gurgaon came on the International map.

Its ideal location on the National Highway of Delhi-Jaipur road, in close proximity of Indira Gandhi International Airport and its well developed infrastructure base like existing roads and communications net work all through the district, total electrification environment has made Gurgaon the choicest location for the industry as such high –tech and high value projects involving foreign collaboration with huge investment have come up in this area.There are many prominent and prestigious units involved in the manufacturing of Cars, Motors-Cycles, Automobile parts, Telecommunication equipments, electrical goods, software development, hardware, sports goods, rubber products, readymade garments. Light engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, terry towels, food items, air conditioners, shoes, pesticides, insecticides etc.. The growth gained further momentum after establishment of Hero Honda, Honda Motors of Japan, Suzuki Motor Cycle and ancillarisation of these Automobile companies.

The other category of industries which have shown tremendous growth in District Gurgaon is readymade garments, a cluster of such type of high-fashion readymade garments units have come up in well developed industrial area of Udyog Vihar. The prestigious units include Orient Craft Ltd. Pearl Global, GIVO, DCM Benetton, Gaurav International Dynamic Fashions.

The next category of Industry having more potential and growth is of IT & IT enabled services. Gurgaon has emerged as a preferred destination for IT Industry after the announcement of IT policy by Govt. of Haryana. The emphasis has been on the development of the state –of-the-art technology and it has been offering its expertise both in infrastructure as well as project promotion.The world famous IT companies like Hughes Software, Tata Consultancy Service, Alcatel, HCL, Siemens, GE Capital,Silicon Graphics etc. have their units located at Gurgaon.

Software Technology Park over an area of 14000 sq. feet developed within the Electronics city. It is allotted to software units. Here Satellite Communication Link has been provided for the benefit of units located in the park. Information Technology and Telecommunication Complex in the Electronic City has been planned for computer/ software export with world class facilities like Earth Station, Teleconference, Internet, E-mail Service and other state –of-the-art communication services.The ITES (IT enabled Service) segment is the fastest growing segment of IT sector.

The other industries working in the district are Rubber & Plastics, Agro based & Food Processing, Pharmaceuticals, Electrical, Leather as well as few companies in the field fo Bio- Technology. The Shekhawati Region near Gurgaon hosts one of   the best havelis in India with beautiful frescoes. The towns of Shekhawati are   eminent for their amazing painted havelis. Such is the appeal of these havelis   that this region is dubbed as "open art gallery of Rajasthan". The plethora of   painted Havelis in rich artistic tradition makes it commendable and fascinating.   Most of the buildings are dated from 18th century to early 20th century. The   Shekhawati landscape is dotted with so many havelis that tracking them is   something like a treasure hunt.

Entertainment City
There are numerous sports club around the city. Most real estate companies have established recreational facilities in their own residential complexes.And many other offer the most authentic Indian and the best in world cuisine. Along with the traditional Indian restaurants, many European and Far Eastern restaurants and numerous other cuisines are also thriving in the city.

Most of the city's pubs and cafés are situated on the MG Road, the fashion district on Gurgaon. Other restaurants and most expensive ones are on the Mehrauli Gurgaon area. Many European restaurants have come up including reputed restaurants like the Fox, Coriander Leaf, Tonino and Clemont Ferrand in that area. Small streets here have been nick named french and Italian names due to many European restaurants in this part of town. A famous street which has become known as La Rue Française has rows of pubs, cafés and restaurants playing live French and Spanish music. Gymkhana Club is known for its seafood restaurant and superb snack eateries and great sport facilities. Many Portuguese and Spanish restaurants have been established by the local South Indian migrants

Educational institutions
The city is home to a number of reputed educational institutions; Management Development Institute; ITM (Institute Of Technology and Management); Indian Institute of Law; IILM Institute for Higher Education,Dronacharya college of Engineering, JK Business School . However, Gurgoanites normally do their higher studies in Delhi. Schools and higher educational institutions in Delhi are administered either by the Directorate of Education, the NCT government, or private organizations.

Shopping Malls
Gurgaon is considered as the unofficial "Mall Capital of India" as it is home to over three dozen malls. The first shopping malls were established on MG Road- DLF City Center Mall and MGF Metropolitan Mall. Since then many new ones have sprung up around the city like the Ambi Mall, the largest mall in India and South Asia and 7th largest in Asia. MGF Megacity Mall, Wedding Malland Gold Souk are one of many speciality malls in town. Mall of India, which is being constructed (expected to be completed in 2010) is to be one of the largest malls in the world so as to put Gurgaon also on the global shopping list. Most new malls are targeting high-end consumers and are almost exclusively dedicated to world-famous fashion brands like Chanel and Versace.
